UAN is a 12-digit number allotted to an employee for a lifetime; it remains the same irrespective of the multiple job change. This number is assigned by EPFO (employee provident fund organisation) to the employer as well as the employee. UAN is useful not only to check EPF balance and withdrawals but also for PF loan application.

HOW TO GET A UAN NUMBER?
On your first job, your employer will ask you to submit a few documents to generate your PF UAN number. This process will be done just once and the number once created remains the same throughout. On change of your job, you will get a new member identification number, which will be linked to your existing PF Balance without UAN number.
